It only took twenty-four years, seven residences, five dogs, and raising one child, but I got Jodi to do a long, two-day bike ride with me.
Jodi had been fighting some foot issues and could not run most of the summer. And since we were now sans-child, biking seemed like a good option. Jodi was ok with it, and the she got a bike that did not wight a thousand pounds and she became a cycling monster.
After getting into biking Jodi was down for a longer ride. We had missed most of the summer, and it was getting pretty deep into fall. In the end, we decided to risk it and ride from Boston to Portland (Maine, not Oregon for you west coasters) with an overnight stop in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. November can be a bit dicy, usually not snow, but can be cold.
We totally lucked out. The first and longest day was above 70 the whole day. And though it got colder on the second day it was still in the 50s for most of the day.
The two days were pretty close in challenge, the first day was a bit longer, the second had a bit more elevation. At least that is what the maps said, as measured by our gps the second day was far more challenging with almost 2.5x the elevation gain. It was metered somewhat by the fact that there was a bunch of down, the total change in elevation was like 100ft.
We did the whole thing self-contained in just back of the bike bags. Which worked out well, other than once we got to Portland where the weather was about 20 degrees cooler than we were dressed for.
But, all in all it was a great trip, though I am thrilled we are taking the train home.

Here are the maps of our two rides.
